Happy New Year, Friends! I hope 2013 is off to a great start for you and yours! Things are absolutely wonderful on this end I would like to let you know about some really exciting events on the horizon. The first concert is happening this Saturday, the 19th at the Royal Room in Columbia City. I’m singing on a Song Reader concert! Those of you who are Beck fans will know what I’m talking about, but just in case- Beck’s latest album was recently released in rare form: sheet music! I will be perming on a concert of this music with several other amazing Seattle based artists. It is extremely unique and extremely exciting! On February 1st, the Johnaye Kendrick Quartet is returning to Tula’s! It has been a while, and I have been writing lots of new music for this show. The JKQ is very excited to return to the venue that allowed us to present our first performance in Seattle. Lastly, on March 1st, I will be performing on the Cornish Music Series with the amazing guitarist Michael Nicolella and several special guests. We are presenting an eclectic array of music ranging from the Renaissance to the present day, including music of John Dowland, Luciano Berio, Elliott Carter, Jacob ter Veldhuis, Jimmy Webb and Jimi Hendrix. It will be super fun!

I want to wish you a Happy New Year!
I also want to let you know about some exciting things coming up in the 1st month of the New Year!

If you are in the New York area, I will be performing at Birdland on January 6th-8th with the Nicholas Payton Television Studio Orchestra- an exciting Jazz Orchestra that performs Mr. Payton’s original compositions. His arrangements are breathtaking, and the music is lots of fun!
On January 12th, the Johnaye Kendrick Quartet will be performing at the Seattle Art Museum on the “Art of Jazz” Series. (If you miss it, the event will be recorded and presented on “Jazz NW” on KPLU January 22nd.)
The Johnaye Kendrick Quartet will also be returning to Tula’s Jazz Club on January 13th.
Finally, I would like to tell you about a wonderful new venue that had an amazing Grand Opening earlier this month called the Royal Room. It is a fantastic space with a lovely stage, and a marvelous crowd. I will be performing with a new ensemble, Painting the Town Red: The Music of Billie Holiday on Friday, January 20th and January 27th.
